Over 800 delegates were present at the First European Myeloma Network Meeting, that took place in Torino, Italy under the auspices of Mario Boccadoro of the University of Torino on April 19-21, 2018.

Drs. Steve Treon (Dana Farber Cancer Institute, USA) and Xavier Leleu (Hôpital La Mileterie, France) co-chaired the session on Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia. Dr. Treon gave a lecture on the genomic basis of WM, and its impact on diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment decision making. Dr. Stathis Kastritis of the University of Athens lectured next on the current and novel treatment options for WM, including the use of ibrutinib. Dr. M.J. Kersten of the University of Amsterdam then spoke on the diagnosis and treatment of IgM related disorders, including peripheral neuropathy. The second EMN meeting is planned for Amsterdam in 2020.

Following the EMN meeting, Dr. Treon joined Drs. Enrica Morra and Roberto Cairoli at the Niguarda Hospital in Milan, during which over a hundred WM patients and caregivers, and hospital staff attended a WM support group meeting.  Dr. Alessandra Tedeschi provided an update on treatment options for WM patients in Italy, that was followed by a state of the art lecture on genomic based treatment advances for WM given by Dr. Treon.  The visit was captured by an article on the Bing Center for WM by Ematos, and the Correere della Sera.
