The 6th International Workshop on Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia (IWWM-6), was held on October 6-10, 2010, at the Molino Stucky Hilton

hotel in beautiful historic Venice, Italy. Close to 200 people attended the 3-day workshop, which included 17 sessions with 80 technical presentations from over 90 speakers, including 14 young investigators, 5 guest presentations, 5 debates, and 2 consensus panel discussions.

The Welcome Buffet was held at the Stucky Courtyard, and Opening Ceremonies at the Hotel Danielli, where Dr. Irene Ghobrial was the recipient of the 2010 Robert Kyle Award, and Karen Lee Sobol spoke about her new book, "Twelve Weeks".

The Closing Ceremonies were held at the spectacular Palazzo Pisani Moretta, where Drs. Eva Kimby, Jean-Paul Fermand, and Steven Treon were the recipients of Waldenstrom Awards. The Venue for the 2012 Workshop (IWWM-7) will be Newport, Rhode Island (USA), with Drs. Ken Anderson and Nikhil Munshi as the Chair Organizers.

In addition to the 3-day workshop was a 4th full day for the IWMF European WM Patient and Physician Forum, featuring 3 full sessions of presentations and breakout group discussions. Please visit www.iwmf.com for more details.

Please visit www.wmworkshop.org, as we will be posting additional materials from the conference as they become available.

IWWM-6 was our most comprehensive meeting to date, and reflects the continued growth in investigators working on the genetic basis, pathogenesis, and treatment of WM. Since the IWWM began in 2000, the number of participating investigators has steadily grown, as have also the number of WM related publications including those arising from the IWWM which have been published in Blood, Clinical Lymphoma Myeloma, Haematologica, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Seminars in Oncology.

We hope the IWWM-6 has enriched each attendees understanding of Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia, and will help foster discoveries leading to its cure.
