The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting was held in Chicago, IL. Over 20,000 health care providers attended the ASCO meeting, regarded as the largest oncology meeting in the world. For the first time in the forty year history of the ASCO meeting, a “Meet the Professor” Session on Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia was held, first on Saturday, May 31, and then on Monday June 2, 2003. Dr. Steven Treon of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute served as faculty for this Meet the Professor Session at which he provided an update to clinicians from around the world on the recent advances in the basic science and clinical understanding of Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia, and provided an update of the consensus panel recommendations from the Second International Workshop on Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia.
